A New Day

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! I used to have a mentor that would often say, "A new day and a new way" every time we started a new project.  It was his way of showing enthusiasm and optimism for any new venture. I thought that was a fitting title for my first parent blog post.  About a year ago, I started an educational blog to share each week with my staff. My goal was to "jazz up" my weekly updates and communicate in a more dynamic way.  Now a year later, I thought it was time to do something more dynamic for my Rosedale families as well.  Well, here we go!

I will use this format each week to communicate with families about the upcoming events at Rosedale, share out the great things happening in our building, and also introduce the incredible staff members here! I will also insert video clips, photos, and web links to the page each week to make it as entertaining and informative as I can.  This will be a work in progress, but I think it will be worth the effort as we move into A New Day and A New Way!

MEET THE STAFF

Mrs. Hill - Building Secretary

Mrs. Diane Hill has worked for Livonia Public Schools for over 25 years. She worked at Churchill High School for 12 years and the rest of her work has been in Elementary. She has been married 41 years, and is the mother of Steven age 40, Adam age 38 and Susan age 34.  She is also grandmother to Justin age 10 and Megan age 8.

My favorite thing about being at Rosedale is the staff and students! Our staff is wonderful and the students are a real pleasure to see everyday. Their smiling faces and energy and interest to learn and better themselves is exciting!

When I am not at work I enjoy time walking and playing with my dog "Harley Low-Rider Hill" who is a mixed breed of dashound, shit-zu and yorkie.  I also enjoy doing crafts of all kinds and I play in card tournaments for special entertainment!

Mrs. Fuller - Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Jeanne Fuller has worked for Livonia Public Schools for 18 years.  She began as a substitute teacher, took 19 years off to be a stay at home mom in order to raise her children, and then came back to substitute teaching, before being hired full time as a kindergarten teacher.  Mrs. Fuller has been married 32 years, and has 3 children - Anthony 31, Melissa 28, and Rachael 23.  She also has 3 grandchildren, Albin 6, Colin 5, and Carli 2.

My favorite thing about being at Rosedale is the size.  I love that our building is small and everyone (staff, students, and families)  complement each other and  go out of their way to help each other.  We are like a big family.  It is wonderful to be established in a building and know all the students and their families.  Since I live nearby, I often see students and families in neighborhood stores.  I love that they always come up to me to say hi.

When I am not working at school, I love to spend time with my family.  Two of my children do not live in Michigan, so family time is very important when we do get together.  My husband and I also love to travel to our little chalet up north and spend time enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods away from the busy city life.

That all Rosedale students, grades 1 through 4, are participating in the "Hour of Code". It's a computer science program that exposes students to computer programming through a series of fun activities. The program is being facilitated by Mrs. Szurek, our Library Media Specialist.  Great things are happening at Rosedale!
