100 Days

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! We are getting near a special event at school as we prepare to celebrate our 100th day! Over the years, I've collected a lot of fun ties to wear at school for the students' enjoyment.  That collection has led to a tradition of hanging 100 of my ties each year in the office for students to view.  Many classes come down to see what 100 ties really look like and I often share out stories of some of my favorite ties and where they came from (I've collected from many countries from around the world).  It's a fun event for the students and it gives me a few days of having an uncluttered closet:)  I hope your child has the opportunity to see the tie collection and has fun on our 100th day of school!

MEET THE ROSEDALE STAFF

Mrs. Nadon - First Grade Teacher
I am a first grade teacher here at Rosedale. My husband Tim and I live in Plymouth with our two daughters Shaelie and Tessa.  Our daughters keep us very busy with swim lessons, Daisy Scouts, dance lessons and playing soccer in a local club. I have been fortunate enough to have spent the last 15 years teaching in Livonia. I completed my undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University and earned my Master’s Degrees from University of Michigan as a Reading Specialist.  I have had the pleasure of working with the wonderful staff at Roosevelt, Johnson, Cleveland and Rosedale.

The best part about Rosedale is the true beauty that is made up of so many cultures, so many caring people and warm personalities. All those qualities become intertwined to form threads that become tightly woven into an extraordinary beautifully crafted quilt that represents the best in all of us. It is an honor to be a part of something so pure.

Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, knitting, riding bikes, going for walks, and simple sewing projects. An interesting thing about me that you don’t know is how many countries I have traveled to in my 45 years- Canada, (Niagara Falls, Vancouver, Toronto, Collingwood, Guelph, Stratford), Scotland, England, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Cayman Islands, Austria, Mexico, Dominican Republic, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Vienna. My favorite trip of all was a three week cruise to Alaska! I am excited to share my love of traveling with my daughters.

Mr. Murphy - Music Teacher
I started teaching in Livonia as part of the CAPA program which, at the time, included a marvelous accelerated instrumental music program. I eventually took over the band and orchestra program at Churchill High School and remained there for many years. Now, I am enjoying teaching our younger students and hopefully instilling in them a passion for music. I have the best job in the world!! I get to discuss, study, listen to, and make music every hour of every day! I am married to an extremely talented dance educator, Mary,  I have two children, Ian and Mallory and we have the cutest dog in the world, Buddy!

It is so nice to be part of the Rosedale community. Rosedale has an incredibly positive energy and I look forward each day to coming here to make music with all of our students. It's also nice to be reunited with the "past Johnson staff"...this year has been somewhat of a coming home for me.

When I'm not teaching music I am making music with friends. I love composing and recording music with friends and we are currently working on our 2nd CD of all original music (ask me how you can listen to some of it). Other interests include, travel, camping and COOKING! I love to cook!!! I am somewhat of a gourmet...I can easily spend an entire day preparing a meal, I love to cook and find it very relaxing.

Did you know that one of the prizes that students can purchase with their positive behavior tickets is lunch with the principal?  Recently, I had the opportunity to spend my lunch time with 33 students (divided between the two lunch periods).  It was a fun time to catch up with students in the library and share out about the fun things happening at school and in their lives.  Great things are happening at Rosedale!
