Presidents' Day

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! As we celebrate Presidents' Day this weekend, it's a great time to remind our students that they can become anything they want if they dream big and work hard.  So many of our presidents have come from humble beginnings and serve as role models of what can happen when hard work, dedication and opportunity all come together.  How lucky we are to live in a country where we are free to pursue our dreams. Remind your child to dream big and maybe she or he will be one of our future presidents!

MEET THE ROSEDALE STAFF

Mrs. Casucci - 4th Grade Teacher
I have worked at Rosedale (and formerly Johnson) for 19 years!  I started as a 3rd grade teacher for the first sixteen years of my career.  Three years ago, I had the opportunity to “loop” with my entire class to 4th grade, which was an amazing experience.  I’ve been teaching 4th grade ever since, and I love it!  4th Graders are independent and proud to be the leaders and role models of our school.  I love watching them take on the extra responsibilities as they help out in the lower elementary classrooms, the lunchroom, and doing other jobs before and after school.  4th graders also welcome a challenge; I love being the one to give it to them, and watching how they rise to accept it.

As I drive to work every day, I look forward to spending time with my Rosedale family…my co-workers and the Rosedale community.  I couldn’t ask for a more supportive and warm group of people to spend my days with!

When I’m not at Rosedale, you can find me with my family!  I have been married to Cass for almost 15 years, and we have two children, Charlie (12) and Will (10), who are the absolute joys of our lives.  As a family, we love to travel, go skiing, boating, and go to the movies.  Most of all, we love to dote on our adorable Goldendoodle, Apollo!

Mrs. Szurek - Library Media Specialist
Mrs. Szurek is the Library Media Specialist at Rosedale, and this is her second year with Livonia Public Schools.  Previously, she was the Media Specialist at the high school level in another district for 6 years.  She received her Bachelor's in English Literature and her Master's in Library and Information Services both from the University of Michigan.  She and her husband, Scott, live in Ann Arbor.  She wanted to become a Media Specialist because libraries have always been her favorite place to go.

My favorite thing about being the Library Media Specialist at Rosedale is working with all of the students every single week.  It is such a pleasure to watch students grow from beginning readers in Kindergarten to media creators and researchers as 4th graders.  The students' passion for books and technology inspire me to continue expanding the library program with new and exciting things.  This year the 3rd and 4th grade students are beginning to use Google Apps and participate in classroom discussions in Google Classroom.  They are loving it and quickly becoming experts!

It probably comes as no surprise that my favorite pastime is reading.  I just simply love books, both physical and digital.  My husband and I enjoy trying out new restaurants and traveling to destinations to try new cuisines.  We lived in New Zealand for a year, and it was a wonderful cultural experience!

Did you know Rosedale students start every day with student led announcements? Each morning, fourth grade students lead the entire school in the pledge of allegiance and our "3 to be" pledge (respectful, responsible, and safe).  We also do an inspirational quote of the week.  Great things are happening at Rosedale!
