Spring Fever

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! Spring break is almost upon us and our students and staff are ready to enjoy some spring weather next week. I know many of our families will be spending time together and perhaps going on trips. Wherever you are spending your spring break, I hope it's a happy time and that some good memories are made! We have a fun week planned for our March is Reading Month activities through Thursday, March 24, leading up to spring break and then we look forward to seeing the students when they return on Monday, April 4.  Remind your child to keep reading even after reading month has ended!

Congratulations to our 4th Grade students for their awesome presentations at the Living Wax Museum!

Elissa Mugianis - English Language Learner Paraprofessional
I am originally from Detroit, have an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. I was also trained and certified to teach ESL (K-12) in the State of Florida. I am fluent in Greek and conversant in Spanish.  I work part-time for Livonia Public Schools; I also care for my four-year-old niece, and promote my life partner Noel’s artwork.  Noel came to the US from Cuba, and it is our hope to one day live there.

In addition to facilitating computer programs which aid in academic language and comprehension skills, it is my professional goal to emphasize the importance of achieving and maintaining bilingualism by encouraging the use of home/heritage languages and cultural pride.

Five words that I would like used when describing the ELL classroom are: patience, warmth, welcoming, encouraging, and supportive.

  • Popcorn will be on sale Thursday, March 24 for 50 cents a bag!
  • The next PTA meeting will be Thursday, April 7 at 6:30 pm (Pizza & Childcare provided)
  • The Mother-Son event will be on Wednesday, April 27 at Zap Zone!

Did you know that Rosedale partners with the Rotary Club for our Early Literacy Volunteer (ELVs) Program? Students from across the school are partnered with our community volunteers to read with. All volunteers go through a background check and a detailed training program headed up by Mrs. Jakubowski.  It sure makes a positive difference for our students. Great things are happening at Rosedale!
