Memorial Day

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! As we enjoy our three day weekend, I would like to express my gratitude for all the fallen soldiers that made it possible to enjoy the freedoms we as Americans celebrate this weekend. I hope it was a happy and safe holiday for all of our Rosedale families. I received many questions on Friday from students if we would have our "Celebrate Monday" assembly this week on Tuesday. While we are not moving our Monday assembly to Tuesday, it made me very happy to hear from students that they enjoyed them and were looking forward to the next one (which will be next week:).  Enjoy the rest of the weekend and we look forward to seeing the students back on Tuesday!

The Last Bell

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! You are probably aware that the end of the school year is less than a month away. And if you weren't aware, I'm sure your children are:)  Teaching in May can be a challenge with the nice weather and students antsy to start their summer break. However, the teachers and staff at Rosedale are dedicated to making every minute count right up to the last bell! I've seen a lot of teachers on social media from across the county talking about giving it their all right up until the last bell rings and I know we are doing the same. We are trying to lead by example that every minute of every class is important and more importantly that learning doesn't stop even after after the last bell has rung!

MEET THE ROSEDALE PTA
Cara Williams - Membership Chair

Hi, my name is Cara Williams.  I have a 1st and 3rd grader here at Rosedale, although it is not uncommon to see me round the school with my 3 step daughters as well.  I served as PTA Membership Chair this school year, but will be serving as 1st Vice President next year. I am very grateful that my family is just as much enthusiastic about animals as I am.  Therefore, if you don't see us around Rosedale, chances are we are at home or on our farm chasing around animals. Our Christ-centered family believes so strongly in giving back to others and find ways to help/put others first. So, I feel that ties into my goals for the PTA next year.

My goal for the PTA is to find more ways to give back.  I would like to help see and support more ways for our students to have fun building each other up and helping others.  The introduction of "blessings in a backpack" this year was fun to watch as it not only blessed families but gave that "good feeling" to the students who helped.  I would also like to help bring families into the schools and get to experience that same feeling, as we look to find more ways to give back to our staff and school!

Five words I would use to describe Rosedale: Involved, Uplifting, Lively, Diverse & FUN!

PTA POINTS
  • The PTA will be welcoming new parents during our Kindergarten Round Up event
  • We have an exciting night planned for our Spring Fling / Basket Raffle on June 3!

Did you know that we only have 18 more days of school left?  It will go fast, as the days are filled with both on-site and off-site learning as well as celebrations! The staff at Rosedale are determined to make every minute of every day count for our students, right up to the last bell!! Great things are happening at Rosedale!

Put it in a Song

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! One of the tricks educators learned long ago was that if you want children to remember something, put it in a song. We do this from learning our ABCs to nursery rhymes. Each morning, we recite our 3 to Be pledge to Be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. This week for our Celebrate Monday assembly, we put that pledge into a Rosedale Risso song and had a great time singing our 3 to Be! I promised the students, I would bring the guitar out again on the last day to sing our song together again. Music can be a great tool for learning and remembering information in a fun way. So the next time you want to have fun with learning and remembering...put it in a song!

MEET THE ROSEDALE PTA
Carol Engle - Recording Secretary

Hello, my name is Carol Engle and I have served this past year as Recording Secretary for the Rosedale PTA.  My husband, Alan and I have a daughter, Rachel in 1st grade.  We have two cats that we rescued as kittens from our yard.  I enjoy volunteering in the classroom and with the ELVs (early literacy volunteers) program.  I am a Registered Nurse and specialize in obstetrics.  I am from Livonia and graduated from Bentley (last graduating class).  For fun, we enjoy watching our daughter at roller skating and swimming.  We love spending time with family and friends.  When we get the chance, we love to vacation on a lake with our toes in the sand!

My goal for the Rosedale PTA is to support our fabulous school and bring together our Rosedale community for some fun events.

Five words I would use to describe Rosedale are welcoming, dedicated, friendly, caring, and encouraging.

PTA POINTS
  • Spring Fling is right around the corner! Don't forget to send donations for the basket raffles.
  • We will be welcoming our new Rosedale families at Round Up on June 1!

Did you know that all the money raised from the basket raffle goes toward technology for the school? In an effort to provide 21st Century learning environments for our students, we are doing our best to equip each classroom with mobile learning devices and programs to enhance student learning. We know that technology has the potential to give even the quietest student a voice. Great things are happening at Rosedale!

The Power of Appreciation

Hi folks, Jon Wennstrom here! This week, our PTA really did a great job of making our teachers feel special for Teacher Appreciation week. It's such a fun time to see our teachers enjoying lunches and notes of appreciation all week long. I often remind students that their teachers are there for one purpose...to make them succeed! Teachers are happiest when children are achieving their full potential. Thank you to everyone who gave the gift of appreciation to our teachers and Rosedale staff this week!

MEET THE ROSEDALE PTA
Lindsey Marcum - PTA Vice President

My name is Lindsey Marcum and I am one of the PTA Vice Presidents.  This was my first year in PTA and it has been a fun filled adventure!  We moved to Michigan right before my son entered kindergarten. He is in first grade now. I also have a 3 year old daughter.  We lived in Alabama for 8 yrs prior to moving to Michigan. Although we loved the warm weather and living near the beach, my husband and I are originally from Indiana so we moved back to the Midwest to be closer to family.  The grandparents were thrilled! My kids have loved exploring snow and all the activities that go along with winter. As a family we love to bbq, watch Alabama football, go camping and enjoy the outdoors. We are kept busy by my son's sports and PTA.

My goal for PTA this year was to ensure we had the ability to provide fun extra curricular programming for the students while raising money to provide additional technology and supplies the school could not otherwise afford. I have enjoyed the year of growth and stretching my limits of creativity.  I strongly recommend everyone volunteer for PTA, it is a very rewarding experience to share with your child.

My five words for this year were FUN, creativity,  cooperation,  respect, and collaboration.

PTA POINTS

  • A BIG Thank You to Today's Orthodontic and Pediatric Dentistry (located in Canton and Novi) for donating all the ice cream for Art, Beats, Eats, and Books. They served over 500 ice cream bars! Thank you to their office for their donation and time, it was a special treat!
  • Our officer elections were held on Thursday. Congratulations to our new officers and thank you to our out going officers. There will not be a June PTA meeting.
  • Spring Fling/Basket Raffle will be on Friday, June 3 from 6:00-8:00 pm!

Did you know that Teacher Appreciation Day was first created by congress in 1980? In 1985, the National PTA declared the first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week with Tuesday being the official Teacher Appreciation Day. It has been celebrated at that time ever since in the United States. Great things are happening at Rosedale!
